UPDATE: the javascript for this was being hosted on Google Drive, which stopped supporting static hosting. In the meantime, I made some small improvements and put a version up on GitHub, so head to klaash.github.io/house-calculator to give it a spin.
A blog of cycling, personal finance, parenting, theology, and wayward thoughts. Updates monthly unlikely.
Super-fancy house cost calculator
This calculator is designed to figure the total cost of buying, owning, and then selling a house. See the accompanying blog post for background and excessive
verbiage about the parameters and output columns.
As you'll see, once
you've chosen some values and hit the button, it will pop up a new
window with the detailed results. Also on that window will be a link to
the calculator that feeds it the values you used, so that it will
prefill with those instead of the defaults (good for bookmarking, or trying different variations). Also note that you can make the table more readable by clicking on column labels to hide the columns you're not interested in seeing.
